California’s housing push stokes a clash with cities
According to the LA Times, the state Department of Housing and Community Development is poised to require cities and counties in Southern California to plan for the construction of 1.3 million new homes in the next decade, a figure more than THREE TIMES what local governments had proposed over the same period.
In contrast, earlier this summer the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), a public agency representing 19 million residents, including the Inland Empire and four other neighboring counties proposed zoning for 430,000 new homes through 2029. SCAG and state leaders are now working to bridge the divide and approve a final housing projection.
City officials, staff and business leaders are encouraged to attend this important luncheon discussion about the status of the state’s Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA)!
